1. Don’t eat Before deep tissue massage
Deep tissue massage requires intense pressure on your body. Most part of the pressure applies to your back, which puts pressure on your stomach and when the body digesting food it can be very uncomfortable. When your stomach is empty your internal organs especially your digestion system works less and your body is more relaxed for getting deep tissue massage. It is also a good idea if you use the bathroom before getting deep tissue massage to make sure your bladder is empty during deep tissue massage.
2. Drink enough water after your massage
Deep tissue massage like other intense physical activities will produce lactic acid between your muscle fibers. Producing lactic acid in your muscles can cause muscle soreness and muscle pain. This soreness and pain can stay with you for several days. The amount of lactic acid production in your muscle is related to many factors in which one of them is how much fluid you drink and how often you get deep tissue massage. Drinking more water after getting deep tissue massage can help that lactic acid gets out of your system quicker.
3. Tell your therapist if you feel pain during massage session
There is a difference between deep tissue massage and deep pressure. Deep tissue massage shouldn’t be painful. If you feel pain tell your therapist. In deep tissue massage, your therapist adjusts the pressure with the massage paces. As much as pressure is deeper, stocks should be slower.therapist should give enough time to the client’s muscles to get adjusted to the pressure.
4. Treat sore muscles with a hot shower or heating pad after deep tissue massage
As we mentioned before, deep tissue massage like any other intense physical activity produces lactic acid in muscles which may cause muscle soreness. Taking a hot shower after a massage or using a heating pad on sore muscles can help lactic acid get out of your system quicker.
5. Keep having deep tissue massage on a regular basis
Deep tissue massage like other physical exercises needs to be on regular basis. The general recommendation for getting a massage is once a month or twice a month. It is better to ask your therapist about how every often you need to get deep tissue massage.
6.Find a good massage therapist for your deep tissue massage
It is important to find a massage therapist that performs good deep tissue massage to better feels your muscles. Try to keep up with one therapist and don’t switch between massage therapists. Every massage therapist has a long plan for her/his deep tissue treatments and Every session they perform is part of that. In the following sessions, they continue their treatments.
7. Inform your therapist about your health conditions and changes in your health condition
It is very crucial that your massage therapist doesn’t know enough about your health condition. if Anything changes in your health condition, please communicate that with your massage therapist. The more you negotiate your health condition with your therapist she/he can perform safer massage for you. Some conditions like pregnancy, using a pacemaker, kidney dysfunction, or any other issues can make massage unhealthy for the client. Clients who go through chemotherapy can be more sensitive to the pressure therefore massage therapists need to be careful if they decide to do deep tissue massage.
