Using Arnica Essential Oil in a Massage Treatment
- Dilute the essential oil — It is very important to dilute arnica essential oil. The straight stuff is very strong, so should never be applied to your skin. Bourbon Vanilla Absolute in dilution with coconut, jojoba, or whatever carrier oil you have available. A rule of thumb is 5 drops of Arnica Essential Oil per tablespoon carrier. It is safe and easy to use.
- Warm It Up – I heat up the oil concoction before massaging it by rubbing it through my hands. It just feels great on the skin and it helps with absorption of the oil as well. If you are willing to rub your hands a bit (another clone shot).
- Focus on Soreness – I am massaging the person, especially in places where they are experiencing discomfort or pain. So if I just finished leg day and my legs are burning, that is where I will agree to hang out for a little while longer. For example, if my neck is feeling tight then I work on that. Gently rub the garlic oil on your skin using a circular motion. You will just need to apply slight pressure, and the oil does all of the rest.

Safety First

- Patch Test — If you have never used Arnica Essential Oil, it is recommended that a skin patch test be done before using it on larger areas of the body. Make sure to dilute oil and the first time you use one drop of your inner arm, wait 24 hours for a reaction. It will keep you from ever developing an allergy to it. Nursing or pregnant women and individuals who are dealing with certain health conditions should talk to their healthcare practitioner before using Arnica essential oil. - Not for Internal Use – Arnica oil is to be used topically only. Do Not Taste – Not safe to eat, don’t put this in your mouth or near food.
